Training Classes

The Gun Doctor is now offering training classes in our on site classroom. We understand that education goes beyond the classroom. To ensure quality of training, our classes are of limited size to provide more personal and dedicated attention. Our instructors are fully certified and insured. The Gun Doctor is fully committed to your successful training.

You can contact us with questions at your convenience. We have open hours Tuesday through Saturday. Don't get your training with fly by night instructors that won't be there later if you need them. Like the rest of the services we offer, we strive to be the best. We will give you the tools and information you need to grow into a safer and more proficient shooter.   • Illinois CCW (part 1) / NRA Basic Pistol - 8 hours - $200.00

    • The NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course (Illinois CCW part 1) introduces students to the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for owning and using a pistol safely. Through this course, the students will learn about pistol parts and operation, ammunition, gun safety, pistol shooting fundamentals, and pistol shooting activities. This course requires live fire practice for completion.

      The Basic Pistol Course will also help prepare the student for participation in other NRA courses. This course qualifies for 8 hours of Illinois concealed carry.

  • Illinois CCW (part 2) - 8 hours - $200.00

    • This course is designed to satisfy the requirements to obtain an Illinois Concealed Carry Permit. The course consists of both classroom work and range work. Students will be required to successfully complete the course and pass both a written examination and a practical range proficiency test. Students must read, write and understand English and be able to follow all of the directions given by the training staff.

      Course attendees must pass a practical proficiency test on the firing range, scoring no less than 70% with a minimum of 30 rounds, fired at distances of 5 yards, 7 yards, and 10 yards, in addition to the classroom portion, in order to be certified as having completed the course. Upon course completion, for either the eight ( 8 ) hour or full (16) hour program, the course attendee will receive a "Certificate of Course Completion".

      The State of Illinois requires combined firearms training of 16 hours in order for an individual to apply for an Illinois Concealed Carry Permit. Individuals may use up to eight ( 8 ) hours of firearms training obtained prior to the effective date of the "Firearm Concealed Carry Act" as credit towards the 16 hour training requirement.

  • Illinois CCW 16 hours (full course) - 16 hours - $300.00

    • This course combination is for those need to take the entire 16 hour Illinois CCW class. Upon completion of these classes you will have your NRA Basic Pistol certificate and your IL CCW course completion certificate. Please choose one of our of IL CCW (part 1) / NRA Basic Pistol class dates and one of our IL CCW (part 2) class dates. Combined these classes will give the required training and hours minimum to apply for your IL CCW license. A discount is reflected if you enroll for both classes. This price reflects a discount off the individual course fees available only when enrolling for both classes.

  • Utah CCW - 4 hours - $150.00

    • The Utah Concealed Firearm Permit (CFP) course is a 4 hour classroom based course taught by our NRA certified & Utah Bureau of Criminal Indentification (BCI) certified instructor. This course will cover pistol basics and Utah criminal & traffic code, BCI administration policy, practical and legal considerations, and more. This class is NOT a live fire course and range time is not required, we encourage you to cultivate your marksmanship skills by scheduling one-on-one firearms training@gundr.com with one of our instructors.

      Like the IL CCW class this is not an NRA course The Utah (CFP) is one of the most sought-after permit because with it in conjunction with IL CCW, law-abiding citizens may legally carry a firearm concealed in 30+ states (laws are ever changing, always check reciprocity before traveling).   • Firearm Deployment and Retention - 4 hours - $125.00

    • We have had a large demand for in depth defensive pistol use. This is a 3-4 hour course that will teach you tactics when drawing your pistol. This course covers types of holsters, benefits and drawbacks to several methods of concealed carry and practice drills. This includes, sitting, standing, and while in a car.

      Yes, you read that right, we will have you practicing drawing from a seated position in a car. Avery practical situational drill for states with CCW. Students are required to bring a holster and designated firearm to get the fullest experience. This class is NOT a live fire course and range time is not required for completion.

  • NRA Range Safety Officer - 8 hours - $135.00

    • The NRA Range Safety Officer Course training provides the core principals to oversee and conduct safe range operations without necessarily being NRA Certified Instructor or Coach. Successful completion of the course will result in NRA Range Safety Officer certification. This class is NOT a live fire course and range time is not required for completion.

      This course of instruction is designed for persons who have been assigned by a range owner, operator, or manager to oversee range safety. Course content includes: ensuring the range is safe to use; conduction of range safety briefings for shooters; handling ammunition and gun malfunctions safely; supervising safety aspects of shooting activities; and handling emergency procedures as established by the range management.

  • NRA Firearm Home Safety - 4 hours - $90.00

    • The NRA Home Firearm Safety Course is the basic course we recommend to anyone unfamiliar with guns or who needs a to learn gun terminology. The goal of this course is to teach the basic knowledge and skills and to explain the attitude necessary for the safe handling and storage of guns in the home. This class is NOT a live fire course and range time is not required for completion.

      In this (4) four hour course students will get the NRA Firearm Home Safety handbook, pamphlets on safety and terminology and lessons on the rules of safe gun handling, identifying and unloading various firearms, ammunition, cleaning, and storage. Students will also get hands-on experience with the most common types of handguns, rifles and shotguns.

  • NRA Basic Rifle - 12 hours - $200.00

    • The NRA Basic Rifle Course is designed to teach the knowledge, skills and attitude necessary for owning and using a rifle safely. The course is perfect for the new rifle owner and serves as an introductory course for more advanced hunting or competition rifle match training. The basics of marksmanship are the lifelong building blocks for many other hunting or shooting sports.

      The goal of the Basic Rifle course familiarize you with the correct operation and maintenance all types of Rifles, along with teaching you how to handle and shoot them safely. Depending on the class size and ability, the instructors may adjust lesson time to assure sufficient repetitions to develop skills.

  • Private Instruction / Custom Classes - $85.00 per hour

    • Is there something you want to learn that you don't see listed? We offer custom tailored private or group instruction. Let the professional instructors at The Gun Doctor build a class based on what you want to learn. All classes will start with a safety briefing and firearm familiarity overview.
